This workshop provides community-based organizations, advocates, and developers with essential knowledge to effectively engage with utilities and regulatory bodies. Participants will gain a foundational understanding of the diverse business models used by electric utilities—investor-owned, municipal, and cooperative—and key stakeholders in the broader regulatory ecosystem. Attendees will learn how these organizations interact, set market rules, and influence grid access, interconnection, and energy market participation. Experts from SEPA will present on how these models shape utility and regulatory decision-making and priorities. Experts from SEIA will present on what a formal intervention entails and what is required to participate in various proceedings, including general rate cases, distribution planning dockets, Integrated Resource Plans (IRPs), and more. Whether you're developing projects, deploying technology, or advocating for policy, this workshop equips you with the context and tools to navigate utility relationships and regulatory processes with greater confidence and impact.
