Siting, permitting, and community engagement are important early steps in the utility-scale solar and storage development process. With different localities in various stages with their own rules and regulations on siting and permitting, this initial phase significantly impacts project progress and can vary dramatically location to location. Recent federal actions have introduced additional hurdles and uncertainty for projects, further complicating the already complex permitting landscape. As a result, it is more important than ever that industry continues to address state and local siting issues including , political opposition, and rural community sentiments around renewable energy, land use, and ecosystem impacts.
During this four-hour hands-on workshop, attendees will learn about the ever-changing siting and permitting landscape in the United States. Presenters will explore new research related to rural viewpoints on utility-scale renewable energy projects. Panelists will discuss approaches to siting that balance competing stakeholder interests and workshop new strategies and tactics to siting and community engagement that lead to better long-term outcomes for all stakeholders. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of the evolving challenges of siting utility-scale solar and storage and actionable strategies for success.
