As energy prices rise, affordability has become a critical issue for elected officials, regulators, and state agencies, prompting investigations into cost-alleviating solutions. With solar and storage emerging as one of the central solutions to unlocking the energy affordability challenge, it is important that decision-makers and advocates understand the available research and project economics and can communicate the benefits of these resources effectively.

The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and Solar and Storage Industries Institute (SI2) are co-hosting this invite-only roundtable at RE+ Southeast. During this roundtable discussion, join state and local government officials and their staff, consumer advocates, ratepayer advocates, and the industry as they discuss affordability challenges in the energy landscape and the relevant research important to these conversations. This intimate roundtable is closed door, so that all participants can ask and answer tough questions. Participants will leave with a greater understanding of load growth projections, available generation, and the relevant research to drive understanding and decision making around affordability challenges.

1:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Siting and permitting are important early steps in the utility-scale solar and storage development process. With different localities in various stages with their own rules and regulations, this initial phase significantly impacts project progress and can vary dramatically location to location. Recent federal actions have introduced additional hurdles for projects, further complicating the already complex permitting landscape. As a result, it is more important than ever that industry continues to address state and local siting issues including land conservation, wildlife and ecosystem impacts, political opposition, and rural community sentiments around renewable energy.

During this four-hour hands-on workshop, attendees will learn about the ever-changing siting and permitting landscape in the Southeast region. Presenters will explore new research related to rural viewpoints on utility-scale renewable energy projects. Panelists will discuss how developers balance climate, conservation, and community when making siting decisions and how innovative state and local policy can drive better outcomes for projects and communities. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of the evolving challenges of siting utility-scale solar and storage in the Southeast and actionable strategies for success. Anyone whose work intersects with clean energy development will benefit from this workshop as they will better understand how their work can be impacted by siting, permitting, and conservation challenges and opportunities in the Southeast.

Cost: $250 member / $335 non-member
