Benjamin Piiru is Senior Manager, Interconnection Policy at SEIA where he will lead state-level strategy on interconnection and grid integration to support efficient, transparent, and fair access to the electric grid for solar and storage projects nationwide.

Benjamin brings more than 16 years of experience in energy infrastructure and regulatory policy, with deep expertise in generation interconnection across both distribution and transmission systems. Prior to joining SEIA, he led interconnection and grid integration strategy at one of the nation’s largest renewable energy developers, where his state-level advocacy and regulatory engagement directly enabled expanded deployment of distributed solar and storage nationwide. He has also worked on interconnection policy within regulated utilities, a state regulator, and as a strategic consultant, giving him perspective from every angle of the interconnection process.

Benjamin holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Juris Doctor from the University of California, Davis School of Law. He lives in Palo Alto, California, with his wife and five-year-old son and is a lifelong martial artist.
